‘Punctuated Life’

punctuation_sign1The title of my blog (at this point), “Punctuated Life,” aptly reflects my life journey. As I live my life according to some map or route plan, I often find myself traveling down unexpected trails or getting lost in what seems to be (from my perspective) uncharted terrains. In other words, I find the continuity of my life constantly being broken up. Perhaps it’s kind of like driving down a street road and encountering detours or having to stop at every traffic light along the way! It is usually difficult for me to allow and cope with these interruptions in my life; however, after applying the principle of hindsight, I realize that my life journey has been marked and interrupted by many wonderful experiences.

(I recommend Lynne Truss’ book, Eats, Shoots & Leaves, which wittingly re-imagines punctuation as an art and passion.) Accordingly, I try to view such unexpected – and, at times, God-given – interruptions as punctuation marks in the writing of my life story: they remind me to pause, breathe, and rest along the way. Thus, a “punctuated life” is a suitable metaphor to denote many of our seemingly chaotic and confusing lives.

And, furthermore, I am constantly striving to learn how to look not only in hindsight, but in present moments to see how my life is being punctuated in positive, refreshing ways.
